In the EU, companies that handle food must work in accordance with the HACCP principles. HACCP stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. This is a standardised method that analyses and checks safety risks in the food sector. The standard minimises the risk of losing loose objects in production, hence the requirement for internal pockets.

Clothing that complies with the HACCP principles are split into three risk classes:

    • Clothing in risk class 1
Clothing in risk class 1 have a relatively low protective function. The clothing is used for work in environments where there is a minimal risk of coming into contact with foodstuffs, as they are sufficiently protected by their packaging.
    • Clothing in risk class 2
Clothing in risk class 2 have a high protective function. The clothing is used when handling perishable food which does not require further processing, as well as food that is not wrapped in packaging.
    • Clothing in risk class 3
Clothing in risk class 3 have a very high protective function. The hygiene risk is at the highest level when handling items like unpackaged, ready-to-eat and perishable foods.

All workwear in the MASCOT® FOOD & CARE range meet the highest hygiene risks in risk classes 1-3.
